TAG Heuer has launched the latest iteration of the Carrera Skipper, a timepiece that originally debuted in 1968. The new model was unveiled as part of the Carrera’s 60th-anniversary celebrations.
The original Heuer Skipper, Reference 7754, was produced in limited quantities and never featured in the Heuer catalog. Despite its somewhat hidden existence, the watch, with its vibrant appearance and intriguing backstory, quickly became a favorite among collectors. Today, it is one of the most sought-after Heuer watches.

TAG Heuer’s association with yachting can be traced back to the mid-1940s when the company partnered with Abercrombie and Fitch to create a collection of A&F-branded watches with tide indicators. This relationship blossomed into a significant opportunity in the late 1960s when Heuer became the official timing partner for the America’s Cup boat ‘Intrepid.’ The Intrepid dominated the event in 1967, winning by a decisive four races to nil. To commemorate this victory, Heuer produced the original Heuer Skipper in 1968.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper bridges the gap between tradition and modernity. It derives its design from the recently released ‘glassbox’ Carrera, featuring a bezel-less case where the glass extends gracefully to the edges, creating a sleek and modern aesthetic. The watch’s colors are reminiscent of the 1968 Heuer Skipper, each with a practical or symbolic purpose. The vivid orange signaled the last 5 minutes before a race started, green represented the hue of the boat’s rigging, and light teal replicated the color of Intrepid’s deck.
The main dial of the new Carrera Skipper is a signature blue inspired by the sea. The 12-hour counter comes in Intrepid Teal, while the 15-minute regatta counter is broken into three segments: Intrepid teal, Lagoon Green, and Regatta Orange. Combined with the triangular-shaped markers positioned at 5-minute intervals around the outer curved flange and the bright orange central seconds hand.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper is a 39mm automatic chronograph, housed in a steel case that is both fine-brushed and polished. The watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters. The display caseback shows off the Tag Heuer inhouse TH20-06 movement.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper is priced at £5,900.00 and comes with a complimentary leather pouch. The watch is available for purchase on the official TAG Heuer website with a 2-year international warranty.
