Bamford x Thomas Pink Automatic Titanium GMT

Pretty with a splash of pink

Luxury British shirt designer Thomas Pink has joined forces with London watchmaker George Bamford for a limited run of 60 watches. The aptly named Bamford x Thomas Pink Automatic Titanium GMT attempts to combine the opulence of Thomas Pink’s aesthetic button-ups with Bamford’s technical expertise in watchmaking to craft an interesting new timepiece.

The result is a minimalist design, utilising a 40mm matte titanium cushion-shaped case. At 46.7mm lug-to-lug, it’s a comfortable everyday timepiece. With a slender 11.7mm case thickness, the watch is most certainly lightweight, and combined with a 100m/10ATM water resistance, gives it a sporty versatility that adds to the formal suited-attire-accessory look Thomas Pink are surely trying to evoke. The sapphire crystal glass top is treated with anti-glare for legibility.

The timepiece features a crown at the 10 o’clock mark that operates an internal rotating 24-hour bezel, and an independent 24-hour hand is present here too. The typical 3 o’clock crown adjusts the time, 24-hour hand and date.

The Titanium GMT has a self-winding mechanism with ball bearing, and is powered by a Sellita SW330-2 movement. The 25-jewel movement operates at 28,800vph, with a 56-hour power reserve.

Pretty in…black and white

The dial of the Titanium GMT is only available to black white or black, with a mere 30 of each colour being crafted, and both options feature a matching date disc that subtly adds to the overall design.

The PINK and BAMFORD logos are rendered in a contrasting black or white to oppose the dial design, but flashes of colour are still utilised here, with flourishes of pink on the top of the rotating 24-hour bezel, as well as on 24-hour hand and the second hand in what is surely a nod to Thomas Pink’s namesake. They only feature lightly, so shouldn’t be too off-putting if you’re not a fan of the colour, but contrast nicely with the otherwise monochromatic design.

The hour markers are silhouette block stick markets, matching the clean-cut minute and hour hands that follow the same block rectangle blueprint. In a stark design move, the typography of the Thomas Pink logo is heavier at the bottom of the dial than the top, which might take some getting used to. The case back attempts to complement the front with a matte grey stainless steel, but notably differs from the main case material.

Two 20mm interchangeable strap options are available as part of the package, in either grey-black fabric or black rubber that should complement either colour scheme nicely. Quick-release pins allow for tool-free strap changes, making it easy to switch things up if you want to quickly change up the watch’s look.

Both the black and white editions of the Bamford x Thomas Pink Automatic Titanium GMT are available at £1,700, exclusively from Thomas Pink’s shop on Jermyn Street in London, or online at the Thomas Pink website.
